Verify Certifications Before You Buy
Before shortlisting any manufacturer, two certifications should be non-negotiable: BIS certification and ALMM listing.
BIS certification is issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards which confirms the module meets India’s specified safety and performance standards, largely aligned with international IEC testing requirements. ALMM listing, maintained by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, requires a physical inspection of the manufacturing facility by the National Institute of Solar Energy, along with detailed documentation of production capacity and quality control processes. ALMM-listed modules are the only ones eligible for government-supported projects, open access schemes, and net metering benefits.
These certifications establish that a manufacturer meets the minimum standard to operate in the Indian solar market. They are the entry requirement. The right manufacturers demonstrate quality well above what certification requires, through in-house testing infrastructure and documented reliability systems.
Questions Worth Asking Before You Commit

Does the manufacturer produce its own cells, or does it source them externally? What technology is the current production line built around, and what’s the roadmap?
